At Sayre Area School District, our School Resource Officer (SRO), Dalton Spencer, is all about fostering trust and connection with our students. Since starting as SRO in January 2024, Officer Spencer launched a unique SRO Patch Design Competition to engage our students in a fun, creative way. Inspired by specialty patches like those for bike patrol or K9 units, he wanted a patch that reflects the spirit of our school and the SRO’s role in keeping our community safe. The competition was created to give students a chance to express their creativity while building a stronger bond with Officer Spencer and law enforcement. The response was incredible, with vibrant designs showcasing school pride and unity. The winning patch, now proudly worn on Officer Spencer’s uniform, symbolizes the trust and partnership we’re building together. We’re excited to keep this tradition going! The competition will continue to inspire creativity and strengthen the connection between our students and Officer Spencer. At this year’s Sayre School District Pep Rally at Snyder Elementary, we took it a step further by recognizing one student from each grade who embodied our RISE values—Respect, Integrity, Self-Control, and Empathy. Each of these students received their own personal patch as a tribute to their outstanding character. Thank you to our amazing students for making this initiative so special, and here’s to more creative ways to grow together as a community!

On Sunday afternoon the Sayre Junior Redskins took on the Athens Wildcats in the Lockhart Street Bowl for a crosstown showdown. Congratulations to the Redskins A Squad for taking the win 21-15 over the Wildcats. From the beginning to the very end each team put everything they had on the field. Razier Vanhousen was a menace, running the ball and making key stops on defense. Attilio Agnellino anchored the offense at quarter back and used his legs to run the ball on numerous occasions. The big guys upfront, Micah Roberts, Parker Mann, Wesley Szollosy and James Henderson anchored the defense stopping the Wildcats from moving the ball and Xander Parrish made some big stops in the secondary for the team. Connor Kmetz played a key role in many critical stops for Redskins on defense and assisted his team making big holes on offense. The redskins recorded 1 interception at the hands of Alex Pelensky during the matchup. On the ground, Jakobi Smith ran the ball for several big plays and Nivek Learn went up and brought down several big passes to move the sticks. Levi Grover and Skilur Baggerly were critical pieces of the offense and causing problems for the Wildcats on defense. Great Job to the coaches Chad Baggerly, Jordan Grover and Jon Roberts for leading this small but mighty team to a successful season. The Redskins were 5-3 on the season going undefeated at home and winning out the back portion of the schedule. During the pregame festivities, the league celebrated the sixth graders from both the football team and cheer squads, along with their escorts.

Yesterday our co-op Jr. High soccer players participated in the yearly 8th grade tournament. This team battled all day against multiple teams from around the area and made it into the finals. The final was hard fought and went into overtime where our team took 2nd place. Congratulations! We are so proud of the hard work, teamwork and determination of this group of athletes and look forward to what they will accomplish in high school soccer. Pictured are 8th graders Clyde Bleiler, Caleb Conden, Caroline Moore and Kaylee Kmetz.
