This week the Envirothon Club traveled to Mt. Pisgah to participate in a full day of Soils, Aquatics and Forestry study with the team at Bradford County Conservation District. At soils the students observed 3 soil pits with 3 different types of soils. They learned about erosion, soil permeability and soil types. At aquatics the students used D nets to pull aquatic invertebrates from the stream, and they were shown how the team uses a backpack electrofisher to study the fish population in streams. At Forestry students were taught how to use Biltmore sticks, Prisms and Diameter Tape. They leaned about the types of shade tolerant and intolerant trees and how it affects tree and stand growth. It was a wonderful experience for all the students involved!

At Sayre Area School District, our School Resource Officer (SRO), Dalton Spencer, is all about fostering trust and connection with our students. Since starting as SRO in January 2024, Officer Spencer launched a unique SRO Patch Design Competition to engage our students in a fun, creative way. Inspired by specialty patches like those for bike patrol or K9 units, he wanted a patch that reflects the spirit of our school and the SRO’s role in keeping our community safe. The competition was created to give students a chance to express their creativity while building a stronger bond with Officer Spencer and law enforcement. The response was incredible, with vibrant designs showcasing school pride and unity. The winning patch, now proudly worn on Officer Spencer’s uniform, symbolizes the trust and partnership we’re building together. We’re excited to keep this tradition going! The competition will continue to inspire creativity and strengthen the connection between our students and Officer Spencer. At this year’s Sayre School District Pep Rally at Snyder Elementary, we took it a step further by recognizing one student from each grade who embodied our RISE values—Respect, Integrity, Self-Control, and Empathy. Each of these students received their own personal patch as a tribute to their outstanding character. Thank you to our amazing students for making this initiative so special, and here’s to more creative ways to grow together as a community!
