In our continuing series of “Get to Know” our staff, we are celebrating secondary English Teacher, Heidi Elston! “I enjoy working out, listening to farming podcasts, supporting students, being outdoors, and spending time with my horse.” “Something my students might not know about me is that I am extremely scared of spiders!” “I always enjoyed helping others in high school, especially with English and social studies. I also knew I wanted a job where I could be involved with our community and help guide future generations.” “My favorite thing about SASD is our students and staff who are irreplaceable and maintain a positive atmosphere for me to work in.” We are thankful to Ms. Elston for her dedication to her role and focus on teamwork at Sayre High School!

13 students in Mrs. Wagaman’s Model UN elective class participated in a Model UN conference held at Commonwealth University-Mansfield today. They joined over 125 students from 9 other high schools across the region. 9 of our Sayre students participated in the larger General Assembly, discussing the issues of plastic pollution in oceans and the use of unmanned armed drones and killer robots. 4 students also participated in the smaller Security Council on drones and an “emerging crisis” in the South China Sea. All of our students did a great job and learned a lot about diplomacy and negotiations. Special congratulations are in order to senior Brooke Romig and junior Kelsey Denico for being awarded runner-up best delegation in the Security Council, representing France!

Last Friday for senior night, we continued a tradition from last season. We asked our seniors to write a letter and give their jersey to a teacher that has made an impact on them. Below are the photos of the teachers our seniors chose this year!
