Safety - Sayre Area School District
Safety Coordinator, Mr. Barry Claypool - 570.888.6121 x1302
The following is part of the continuing efforts of the Sayre Area School District to keep students and staff safe while attending school in our district:
Surveillance cameras are currently operating throughout the school district. These include entrance levels at the H. Austin Snyder Elementary School and the Sayre High School.
Doors are locked down shortly after students arrive at school. A buzz-in and video monitoring system is in place at all schools.
A “Crisis Management and Security Plan” is in place. The plan is reviewed throughout the year.
Sayre administration, when facing non-physically violent interactions, uses conflict mediation between the involved parties. This process puts students on notice that any other inappropriate interactions will be met with consequences.
The Student Assistance Program is in place. This state-mandated program allows students and staff to anonymously report behaviors that are a concern. These concerns focus on mental health and drug/alcohol issues. The SAP team meets regularly to review the referrals and takes appropriate action.
Skylert, through our Skyward student information system, allows the school district to contact parents by phone in a very short amount of time. These emergency notifications will immediately be followed by a posting on the district website.
The entire professional staff participated in an Active Shooter Drill in June of 2012. This involved all police departments, emergency management teams, and Guthrie medical personnel.
Safe to Say
Get the app or call 1-844-723-2729
The Safe2Say system is an anonymous way for you to submit a tip to your school. You do not need to share your name, phone number or anything unless you want to.
What types of things should I report?
If it makes you uncomfortable, submit a tip. It will be up to your school to determine what the next steps are. Do you think someone is going to harm themselves? Did you see something scary that concerns you online? Submit this kind of thing. Safe2Say Something is the easiest way to let someone know that there is a problem and let them handle it. The best part is, they will never know who it was that submitted it. It’s that simple.
