  • September 6, 2022 - SASD Board agreed to partner with AASD in a feasibility study on the viability of a school merger between AASD and SASD

  • November 1, 2022 - SASD and AASD Board of Directors interviewed two teams that responded to the RFP

  • December 5, 2022 - SASD Board approved the Merger Feasibility Study to be conducted by Alloy 5, McClure, PFM, and Eckert Seamans

  • December 6, 2022 - AASD Board approved the Merger Feasibility Study to be conducted by Alloy 5, McClure, PFM, and Eckert Seamans

What is the purpose of this study?

The Merger Feasibility Study is an effort between the Athens Area School District and the Sayre School District to collect unbiased facts and data that will provide clear insight into the potential and possibility for a school merger.  Alloy 5, McClure, PFM, and Eckert Seamans will conduct a broad comprehensive study that will help both districts determine if the potential for merger is a reality. The Merger Feasibility study is simply a study, it does not mean that a merger WILL happen.  Over the next several months Alloy 5 and its partners will be conducting this merger feasibility study. Both school boards are committed to having all facts in front of them prior to making a decision on a school merger. This study will provide those facts for both boards.  Additionally, both boards are committed to keeping each of their committees and communities informed throughout this process.

Who is conducting the study?
Alloy 5, McClure, PFM, and Eckert Seamans have been hired to conduct the study.

What is the cost of the study?
$135,000

Who is paying for the study?
Each school district, Athens and Sayre, is paying for 50% of the study.

When will the schools merge? 
No decision has been made concerning the merging of the two schools.  The school boards collectively have agreed to gather information, facts, and data to determine if a merger is beneficial to the students and taxpayers of both communities.  

Why is the term Merger being used in this study?  
Merger is the correct term used when two school districts look at dissolving districts and creating one new school district.
