Curriculum and Instruction

The teachers, administrators, and staff of Sayre Area School District strive to provide all students with learning experiences that challenge their academic abilities and meet their varying needs as twenty-first century learners.  In order to create these learning experiences for our students, teachers, administrators, and other professional staff work collaboratively to regularly design, review, and revise course-specific curriculums and assessments.  The curriculums utilized by our teachers are developed based on Pennsylvania Common Core standards (PACC), and offer a progression of developmentally appropriate skills, strategies, and content across grade levels and subject areas.
For questions pertaining to Sayre Area School District’s curriculum, please contact the SASD Administration office.

Cycle of Curriculum

As the needs of our students continue to change and evolve from year to year, as do grade-level and course-specific curriculums teachers utilize to meet students’ differing needs in their classrooms.  To do this, Sayre Area School District follows a “Cycle of Curriculum” that ensures the regular evaluation and revision of curriculums at all grade levels.  By following the “Cycle of Curriculum,” teachers, administrators, and other district professional staff are ensuring that each of the curricula in place throughout the school district are up-to-date and relevant to the needs of our twenty-first century learners.

Balanced Literacy Framework

The foundation of all learning is rooted in literacy skills and strategies.  Learners must have the ability to strategically read a variety of texts, as well as effectively write to appropriately express their understanding of those texts and their content.  To support our students’ development of these necessary skills and strategies, Sayre Area School District utilizes a balanced literacy approach to teaching literacy skills to our students.

Below you will find our district’s “Balanced Literacy Framework,” which includes SASD’s philosophy to teaching and learning literacy, as well as an outline of how each grade level is expected to utilize the framework to best meet the literacy needs of all students.  The framework is used by all English Language Arts (ELA) teachers in kindergarten through eighth grade, and will continue to evolve as the needs of our students change over the course of each new school year.
