The L.E. Delaney Library

The L.E. DeLaney Library is located in the Sayre Area Junior-Senior High School Building. The library in Sayre High School has been named for Mr. L.E. DeLaney, a Sayre High School graduate, teacher, and school superintendent. Mr. DeLaney Served a total of 34 years as Sayre superintendent of schools, retiring in 1946, and his association with Sayre schools covered 55 years. He was quoted on his retirement as saying “Through the years a firm and abiding faith in our young people has grown and confirmed in me. I am proud of our Sayre youth, our staff, and our institution.”

Mr. DeLaney had great interest in quality school library service. During his years as superintendent Sayre High School was one of the few schools in Pennsylvania with a full-time librarian. Sayre Area School District can be considered a pioneer in the school library field.

Mr. DeLaney’s photograph is found on the south wall of the library near the library entrance.
