Dear Sayre Families,
It’s been a long-awaited return to school. I hope that you are as eager and ready as we are! As you are aware, Sayre School District has undergone many changes in order to bring our children back to school in a safe and healthy atmosphere. We have spent countless hours and days reviewing the mandates that our Governor has ordered so that we can reopen our school safely. We have followed each mandate and we are ready to go!
We have had to make many changes within our schools, one of which is transportation. Our busing for 2020-2021 will look a bit different. One of the mandates is that we are limited to 44 students on a school bus; two students per seat, leaving the front seats empty. Due to this new change, we had to take a look at our busing on a full scale and unfortunately had to impose new walker areas within our district. In South Waverly, students living between Pennsylvania Avenue and Keystone Avenue will walk to Snyder. There will be a crossing guard at the corner of William Street and Pitney Street to cross the children over to Baranyk Street safely. In addition, students living on the East side of Elmer Avenue and Lehigh Avenue between Stevenson Street and Mohawk Street will also be walking to Snyder this year. We spoke with Sayre Borough Officials and performed traffic studies prior to this decision being made. Unfortunately, we do not have enough bus drivers to accommodate all of our busing needs, therefore, changes needed to be made in order to be in compliance with the Governor’s mandates. There are suggested walking routes for both of these areas on the transportation link. Another mandate is that students are required to wear a face covering. If a student refuses to wear a face covering, transportation will be denied.
In addition to the new walking routes, we had to reevaluate all of our bus routes to shift students around to ensure that our buses were not overcrowded. All of our bus routes are listed on the transportation link. Please take a look to find the color bus for your child(ren). There are also estimated bus times for each stop that we will be transporting. We ask for your patience during the first few days of the school year as most of our bus routes have been revised. It will take the drivers time to become familiar with each route.
As in the past, due to the limited number of seats per bus, we will not be able to accommodate last minute requests for busing or destination changes. You will need to make other arrangements. It is with a heavy heart that we need to implement these changes, but we do not have any other options at this time.
Lastly, if you have any questions regarding a bus route, please feel free to contact us. You can reach the Transportation Coordinator at 570-888-6121, Option 3, Extension 1304.
We look forward to a NEW and exciting year at the Sayre Area School District!!
