SCIENCE 8 ADVANCED.

Prerequisite – grade of 85% or above in Science 7.
Students may advance to 10th Grade Biology College Prep, upon completion of this course, if the following criteria have been met:
Student must have an overall average of at least a 93%.
Student has exhibited good lab techniques throughout the year.
Student has exhibited good study skills and classroom behavior throughout the year.
This course develops a strong foundation for future Biology, Earth Science, and Physics courses, and introduces Environmental topics for future courses to build on. The course concentrates on topics such as the five kingdoms of living organisms, ecosystems, oceanography, geology, meteorology, astronomy, energy, electricity and magnetism. Emphasis is placed on improving graphing skills, applying scientific knowledge, and integrating math and science concepts. All science courses meet the Pennsylvania Science Standards. Students will need to complete class work, homework, laboratory activities, quizzes, tests/exams, and special projects as assigned by their teacher. Notebooks are required in most classes.

BIOLOGY GENERAL

This course is designed to provide a foundation for understanding the fundamental characteristics and functions of living things. Areas of study include: ecology, chemistry, cell, genetics, evolution, and classification. Labs are included. Participation in lab is required.
