English – In English LifeSkills we will work at each student’s independent level to cover material from the 9th grade curriculum. We will take the time to hit on each student’s independent goals and track progress along the way. We will also tie in everyday English that is a necessity for a successful future. We will discuss the importance of the material covered and link it to real life experiences to make it a more effective learning experience that will stick with the students throughout their lives. We will also take the time to fill out different types of forms and go over essential information for successful life skills in English.
Science – We will also be covering the 9th grade curriculum in Science LifeSkills this year. Students will learn new information and perform a hands-on activity to better enhance the learning experience. The material will also be delivered in a way that students can easily connect to their everyday world to make it a much more meaningful learning experience for them.
Math – This year in Math LifeSkills we are working on skills that will make students confident and progress to meet their individual goals. We will tie in a lot of different money, time, and word problem skills to our learning. Students will learn to focus on the question of word problems in order to find the answer and determine if they should add, subtract, multiply, or divide. Students will also be in charge of completing monthly calendars. They will also learn how to write checks and balance a checkbook. All of the skills that the students will learn throughout the school year will help make them much more confident within the community.
Community Living – I am so excited that we have this Community Living class that enhances learning in all areas as a hands-on way of learning. We have a lot planned this year and the students are very excited. Students will go over the importance of their handbooks and writing and recording assignments. This will also be connected to life after school by managing work schedules with other outside appointments. Students will be following recipes and will spend a lot of time in the kitchen this year. They will be in charge of managing money earned for baked goods. They will go to the stores and buy things in order to make their food items. Students will also take advantage of going to other very important places throughout our community such as the Sayre Public Library and the post office. We will be covering safety throughout this school year and other very important skills in order to make students successful for their future.
ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO RECORD THEIR SCHOOL ASSIGNMENTS DAILY IN THEIR NOTEBOOKS. THESE NOTEBOOKS COUNT AS POINTS THAT THE STUDENTS EARN FOR MONTHLY AND SOMETIMES WEEKLY ACTIVITIES. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU LOOK AT THE ASSIGNMENTS THAT YOUR SON/DAUGHTER MAY HAVE AND SIGN THE NOTEBOOK DAILY.
