Buckle Up
On September 22nd, from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m., Chris Smith, a Highway Safety Specialist, observed students and parents upon entering the school parking lot in the morning to see how many were wearing seatbelts. The results are very concerning.
The survey totaled 107 drivers
67 were buckled (63%)
40 were unbuckled (37%)
The survey totaled 69 passengers
32 were buckled (46%)
37 were unbuckled (54%)
Overall (176 drivers and passengers)
99 buckled (56%)
77 unbuckled (44%)
Sayre SADD/LOOKING OUT took a stand to make sure more people buckled up by doing three things:
The Quick Buckle Challenge

Survivor 101 Speaker (Grades 7 & 8)
Hand Outs and e-mails to students and faculty
A second survey was then taken on October 27th. These are the results:
The survey totaled 85 drivers
76 were buckled (89%)
9 were unbuckled (11%)
The survey totaled 51 passengers
43 were buckled (84%)
8 were unbuckled (16%)
Overall (136 drivers and passengers)
119 buckled (88%)
17 unbuckled (12%)
